"Cityscape/Landscape"

Mark Hurd
digital art rendering

When I was asked to create pieces for this show revolving around St. Louis, I wanted to capture fairly well known landmarks from a perspective that was out of the ordinary. I also was looking for a way within my media, which has a two dimensional silk screen quality, to capture, distort, and exaggerate simple planes. I am drawn to the contrast of vivid brights such as neon or sunsets against a moodier dusky atmosphere and the clean blue sky as a canvas for architectural gems.

"Dante's Distractions"

Stephanie J. Witte
gourd, mixed media sculpture

Comedy, Confusion, Misery, Whimsy - I imagine Dante was often distracted by quirks of nature and the profound amusement of life around him as he worked on his poems.

I hope observers will be intrigued by my "distractions".

"Missouri Places and More"

James F. Wilson
oils & watercolors

"This show is really about an American experience. My family and I traveled extensively this summer and had many experiences. All have that which seems valid painting material. So, as the show developed all of these divergent subjects evolved at the same time. Defending this is hard except to say, that I think too many of us are trapped into hard line thinking about one concept. I want to enjoy life and my art works and don't really enjoy the idea of one barrel for each person. I am multifaceted and enjoy developing one idea after another. This work that is evolving is simply "painting & whatever that may bring."

"Mix of Styles, I"

Dave Marlow
digital photography

These photographs in this show have been taken throughout my last 35 years, and are some of my favorites. The "Raggedy Ann Fantasy" girl, and "Paper Rosie" were published in the California Living Magazine in the 1970's. Since using digital capture, I have been able to convey color and impact more accurately, and when it benefits the image, to augment the contrast and saturation.

"Earth and Fire"

David Andrew Midkiff
ceramics

This exhibition presents an eclectic range of ceramic technique, style, and function. Included are hand-built and wheel-thrown forms, functional pieces and sculpture. Some forms are symmetrical; others are asymmetrical. Some pieces were made from a single form; others were made by assembling several forms. Some are drawn and painted upon; others are highly textured. Firing and glazing techniques very. Low-firing temperatures produce bright, clear glaze colors; raku produces mat black clay and metallic-flashed glazes; high-temperature reduction firing produces muted, earthy glaze colors.

"Art Nouveau Landscapes"

Rich Penney
oils

With a name as paradoxical as Rich Penney's, it's no wonder that this artist's talents is as seemingly contradictory as it is.

"Mensch’s Glass"

Ben & Lori Mensch
blown glass

A husband and wife team, Ben and Lori Mensch have become known for their unique forms and unusual designs. Their original blown glass designs have primarily revolved around vessels and the exploration of shape. The pieces often originate in the geometric and move to the organic, from linear and controlled to loose and free.

"Monet's Sojourn: China"

Eleanor D. W. Ruder
sumi-e painting

Monet's Sojourn: Claude Monet's home and garden has been my inspiration to contemplate his interruption of color to evident nature. Monet's influence on our collective minds is thought provoking it it's self, that his paintings are so ardently honored to this day. I have approached this collection contemplating Monet's use color, to meld with the emotions of Chinese method Suni-e painting.

"Ponies of Tang"

Karen Clark Antrim
sculpted ceramic

During the last twenty years I have been sculpting animals, and of late, ponies and horses of all shapes, sizes and personalities. They have been created because I have a fondness, admiration and fascination for these great animals. Each horse enjoys an elevated status, and reveals a multiplicity of traits, rooted in historical tradition, realistic interpretation, and imagination.

Rescue Pony, as seen in the title of a few of my pieces of artwork, refers to a pony that has been slightly injured in some way during the challenge of the raku firing process. The pony has then been thoughtfully repaired, and holds the title of "rescue".
