"Viewpoints"

As in any family we are all individuals. This show is a visual expression of each family member's unique viewpoint.

"Earth & Fire, Opus II"

David Andrew Midkiff
ceramics

Memories of family and home, interpretations of historical, mythological, and religious themes, and musings about life provided inspiration for this body of ceramic art. Each is a sculpture, but each is a sculpture which may also serve in a functional capacity. This concept stems from a long-held family saying, "Make yourself useful as well as decorative." The work is either low-fired stoneware, brightly glazed and whimsically formed, or raku-matte-black clay with metallic glaze and richly textured.

"Mix of Styles, 2"

Dave Marlow
photography

This 2010 show features abstract, floral, scenic, cityscape and old rock concert photographs from the last 35 years, mostly of the St Louis area. These are digital photographic archival prints. You should find at least ONE image that you can identify with. This is the second in my series of "Mix of Styles" shows.

"We Have Roots"

Omer Huremovic
twisted wire sculpture

My work bears shadows of my past. Experiences formed in my homeland of Bosnia and Herzegovina, a country that for years has been plagued by destruction and war, triggered the desire to create and give shape to wonders of nature. My fascination with trees in particular became the overriding inspiration and key component in my visual vocabulary. In my trees, made with different gauges of electrical copper wire and aluminum welding wire and rocks that I find or are given to me, I aim to create the sensual, delicate, yet strong and dynamic curves that mirror nature's bountiful manifestations. The man-created trees form a perfect antithesis to the rocks, which nature has shaped during its countless and merciless cycles.

"Revealing Secrets"

Dimitrina Stamboldjiev Kutriansky
drawings

Living in a reality defined by confusion and conflicts, we need a temporary escape into a world of simple beauty and familiar emotions, converging in the expressive harmony of faith, promise, and optimism. The landscapes I create are purely fictitious, not the representation of a particular location. Rather, they are the combination of multiple images stored in my memory and recalled when needed to be integrated into arrangements, uniting the tangible with the abstract.

"ART Summery"

Cortney Boyd
glass

This recent work showcases some of my favorite toys from childhood. Certain toys were my everyday companions such as the stuffed animals that accompanied me from my crib and beyond. Other objects are representations of little things that I played with frequently, like rubber ducks and Silly Putty. The fragility and luminousness of glass materializes delicate memories of youth and play through the recreation of toys that I loved as a child.

"ART Summery"

Kay M. Pick Zivkovich
mono prints

I have always been inspired and stimulated by nature. Traditionally my artwork has focused primarily on landscape images allowing the viewer to interpret a sense of place. During a recent sabbatical I had the opportunity to continue my printmaking research but with an interest on different subjects.

"Art Summery" is a collection of work focusing on the subject of fish. The Japanese print places much emphasis on two-dimensional, bold foreshortening, sensitive line, color, texture and composition. Many contemporary Japanese artists use the ukiyo-e ("Floating world" )printing technique in their work. My intention was to adopt this style using the monotype printing process.

"Spirit Vessels and Houses"

Joel Price
ceramic and wood

My pottery has developed into three distinct but related lines.  I make pots to hold my substantial collection of bonsai trees.   I also make functional pots that I hope will be handled and used regularly.   A good mug is a joy to make and a joy to use.

This exhibit is focused on the third line of production, sculptural pieces that I generally refer to as “spirit houses”, after the remarkable small wooden houses made in Thailand.  The Thai use them to attract and mollify local spirits that they hope will help and not hinder their lives.

"Places in Paint"

Mary Pachikara
watercolor

My favorite compositions are derived from the beautiful Southern Illinois landscapes where I live. I begin my paintings without any preconceived outcomes in mind and let the work take its own course allowing me to enjoy both the process and painting that finally unfolds.”

Glorious Morning Lillies

"Impressions"

John Lautermilch
oil on canvas

I am fascinated by the color, light patterns, and variety found in nature - particularly with respect to water lilies. One can spend a life time and never come close to capturing the beauty and tranquility found in the natural world. I feel blessed to have the time to look so deeply into the life around me and hope to share that feeling with you through my paintings.

"falstaff's polaroid's"

MJ Rigby
acrylic/glass/wood

The title comes from a combination of thoughts, filtered by fondness and emotion. Shakespeare's traditional character Falstaff is embodied by many people at many times in my life and these "polaroid's" are snap shots of events in my life. The title of each painting is an euphemism of a specific memory. All of these paintings are vivid recollections of my near and distant past, that have had an impact of wonderful proportion. I am this man because of these paintings.

"Unleashed"

Xiaogang Zhu
paintings, drawings

My inspiration derived from the everyday life, it may be the snow on the parking spot when I am on my way to work, or the sunset on my way home. I am attracted to the peaceful and harmony of nature, the color of light, reflection and the shadow. I persuade the intentionally accident effect and well performed brushstroke and vivid color. Each painting goes beyond mere subject matter and I am hoping it is able to take the viewer on that same journey. I will be very happy if you may find things similar as I stated in my artworks.

"Pathways"

Eleanor D.W. Ruder
sumi-e ink on rice paper

Of late, Dragons are in my path, for reasons I can't fathom. Nevertheless, I have a compulsion to continue my exploration of Monet's vision of color merged with the spirit of the Chinese method of Sumi-e painting.

"Human Rights"

Phyllis MacLaren
mixed media collages

Phyllis MacLaren’s mixed media collages relate the stories of individuals around the world whose human rights have been violated. The artist and her subjects encourage us to pause, and listen again, to those forgotten after a few days in the news.

Tivoli Vertical #3

"Cityscape/Landscape"

Mark Hurd
digital art rendering

When I was asked to create pieces for this show revolving around St. Louis, I wanted to capture fairly well known landmarks from a perspective that was out of the ordinary. I also was looking for a way within my media, which has a two dimensional silk screen quality, to capture, distort, and exaggerate simple planes. I am drawn to the contrast of vivid brights such as neon or sunsets against a moodier dusky atmosphere and the clean blue sky as a canvas for architectural gems.
