Togetherness

Dimitrina Stamboldjiev Kutriansky - Togetherness, oil on rice paper

Living in a reality defined by confusion and conflicts, we need a temporary escape into a world of simple beauty and familiar emotions, converging in the expressive harmony of faith, promise, and optimism.  The landscapes I create are purely fictitious, not the representation of a particular location.  Rather, they are the combination of multiple images stored in my memory and recalled when needed to be integrated into arrangements, uniting the tangible with the abstract.

The human-like images are purely conceptual in purpose, revealing my personal observations of the human condition, the purpose and fate of contemporary man.  They are symbols and expressions of the indistinct darker forces within, trapped by conventions and obligations.  The viewer can interpret both the landscapes and the root images, and, through his or her unique response, comprehend the secrets of each piece.

Timeless

Omer Huremovic - Timeless, twisted wire sculpture

My work bears shadows of my past. Experiences formed in my homeland of Bosnia and Herzegovina, a country that for years has been plagued by destruction and war, triggered the desire to create and give shape to wonders of nature. My fascination with trees in particular became the overriding inspiration and key component in my visual vocabulary. In my trees, made with different gauges of electrical copper wire and aluminum welding wire and rocks that I find or are given to me, I aim to create the sensual, delicate, yet strong and dynamic curves that mirror nature's bountiful manifestations. The man-created trees form a perfect antithesis to the rocks, which nature has shaped during its countless and merciless cycles.
