Artist's statement:
My earliest memories of artistic interest were nourished by an insatiable curiosity. Often, it was that curiosity that was the bane of my existence.. I seemed to have more than my share of bandaids and chair-sitting.
After a three year hiatus from painting, I find that old curiosity burning brighter than ever. The realization that
I can balance my time with collage and books as well as painting, has been a joy. I am not quite ready to give up any one process. I let the day decide the direction I shall take.
My early painting was experimental with color, form and abstraction and increasingly, nature had become the focus of my expression. Watercolor lends itself to this style and view. Collage represents a totally opposite mind set. Nature is universally symbolic and the iconography is clearly recognized, while collage uses a totally different language, more personal and intimate.
I hope to convey a sense of serenity with the use of organic forms. My fascination with alternative angles of vision in the negative space of my work, remains intact, perhaps even more solid. My florals were never meant to be pastoral or decorative, but my personal expression of nature and how it exists in my personal vision. I am reminded that nature is a series of transformations which give inspiration to the basis of my philosophy and faith.
As I continue to explore and experiment, I find the peace and serenity that my art gives me. It has always given me a voice for my emotions. It has been my salvation in times of stress and personal disappointment. It is not something that I do, but rather something that
I must do. It is my gift, and I am grateful.
