Bruce has been involved with blown glass since 1988. Each new piece he designs and creates is a new adventure in mastering the technique of working the hot, fluid material by pushing, pulling, prodding, blowing, swearing, and reheating it until the desired form is attained. One can approach the beast in a casual, playful manner or one can take a methodical, repetitious, mechanical attitude toward hot glass; the results are flowing, sculptural forms by the former artist, and controlled, precise forms by the latter. When the furnace is off, Bruce finishes some pieces by sandblasting, enameling, combining them with bronze, or electroplating them. Bowls and jewelry can be slumped and/or fused in a kiln, using chards from hot worked pieces or stained glass. The paths of discovery are limitless.
