Artist Statement:
My soul demands reality and I have always tried to paint realistically. If I can capture just a fraction of what there in life, a water lily, or a reflection, or sunlight highlighting a face, then I'm happy. I realize that an artist painting with mud can hardly capture light, but I must try.

About the Artist:
John would sit while his father would entertain him by drawing cartoons. Soon John was drawing his own cartoons and at the age of eight received his first oil paints. Encouraged by his mother, Nellie, he entered his first paintings in an out door art show and won first place. In high school he displayed and sold his paintings in his uncle's restaurant.
After graduating from high school he enrolled in the School of Fine Arts at Washington University in St. Louis. His professors soon noted his talent and awarded him with a student scholarship. As a senior he was the only student whose work was accepted into the annual St. Louis Art Museum show. After graduation he spent two years in the US Navy, during which time he did commissions as he found time.
Through the years his paintings have won awards and prizes in various local shows and have been purchased by many individual collectors and institutions.
