As my art has matured, growing in complexity and often in size and expanded into other mediums, my essential vision remains the same-Form, movement, style tradition and balance.
Biography
Paul Londani Banda was born on February 19th, 1976 in Lusaka, Zambia, Africa. In 1998, he came to the Unites States in very unfortunate circumstances. He was a victim of Human Trafficking (Paul was a member of a Zambian Acappella Boys Choir that was trafficked into the United States) After escaping his captors in Sherman, Texas, Paul and some of the choir members came to settle in the St. Louis metro area. Paul, who was born third in a family of nine siblings, is currently a student at Washington University in St. Louis. Paul is a self-taught artist whose work stretches from paintings, pencil & charcoal work, paper mache and wire sculptures. His paintings are characterized by an interest in the depiction of space and volume, and by a preference for soft colors bathed in suffused light. He narrates realism of figures convincingly into settings of African lifestyles and culture. Paul is in favor of impressionism and he creates an atmosphere by predominant use of blues, greens, yellows and reds.
Artist Approach
Paul’s work combines vivid colors, dynamic forms and a timeless subject. His personal blend of style, technique and mediums creates art both traditional and contemporary dynamic; yet identifiably intimate.
