 About this Exhibit
I love and never cease to find inspiration in trees—the focal point of all of the works in this exhibit. In these sumi-e paintings, I strive to capture the grace and tenacity of these life-affirming symbols. I am pleased to share the joy I feel in interpreting this centuries-old art form.

"The Forest Revisited": Mixed Media Gourds

Website: http://www.componere.com

Exhibit Dates: June 1-25, 2011
Artist's Reception: Sunday, June 5, 2-4 p.m.

Title: "The Forest Revisited"
Artist: Stephanie J. Witte

Stephanie Witte's exhibit of mixed media gourds is titled The Forest Revisited. A prolific, popular artist who now works primarily in mixed media sculptural creations using gourds, Stephanie was inspired to create the works in this exhibit by two of her favorite authors: Longfellow, who wrote, "This is the forest primeval . . . it stands like Druids of old. . .," and John Muir, who wrote, "The closest way into the Universe is through a forest wilderness." Like forests in nature, which provide a haven and inspiration for man and beast, the whimsical forest of sculptures in this exhibit is intended to encourage and inspire curious observers who journey through and around it.

Stephanie has raised a common medium, mixed media sculptures, to uncommon standards. Many of her pieces are large assemblages, some over six feet tall. (See one of Stephanie's works from this exhibit, "Vertical Aquarium," attached.)

Exhibit and reception are free and open to the public. Gallery Hours: Monday-Thursday, 11-5; Friday & Saturday, 11-9; Sunday, 1-5.

Thank you,
Eleanor

Water lilies, which he captures in several works in this exhibit, hold a special fascination for John. Some of the paintings in the exhibit were inspired by the recent tsunami in Japan.

Title: “holding turnips”
Artist: mj rigby,
Media: acrylic on glass

“holding turnips decodes to captured time. This series is a continuation in the effort to encapsulate a moment in time, a fraction of a second where an event gets etched into my mind. The emotional energy and spirit of that moment is preserved on the back of the glass. The moments are sporadic and come without warning, but they are moments infused with innocent joy and naive intensity; they resonate within me.”
