Joe currently lives in St. Louis. He has been a welder for over 30 years. He also enjoys gardening and dancing.
I began creating welded art in 1987 and find my inspiration in odd-shaped scraps of steel that would usually be discarded. My projects begin with a whimsical idea, often inspired by nature. Finding the pieces of steel that will be used for each project is similar to putting together a puzzle; I don't begin welding until I have found all the pieces needed to create the image in my mind. Though I use steel to create my sculptures, my goal is to express a feeling of movement and to capture a moment of action that is then frozen in time. Insects are a particular source of inspiration - it is easy for me to imagine them in humorous predicaments with human thoughts.. I hope that when you look at the details of my sculptures, you will notice something that makes you smile and laugh.
