Artist Statement:
I create many pieces that revolve around the Saint Louis area. My intent is to capture well-known landmarks from a perspective that is out of the ordinary. My media lends a two-dimensional silkscreen quality to my work and allows me to play with and exaggerate forms and colors to add another level of interest to each local landmark. I am drawn to the contrast of a vivid bright, such as in neon or sunsets, against a moodier dusky atmosphere and the clean blue sky as a canvas for architectural gems.
My true intent is to capture the magnificence of nature in combination with man-made grandeur. I am influenced by the pop art of Worhol. I have also admired the paintings if my first drawing teacher, Bill Kohn. He used vivid, brightly painted architectural plains in many of his works. I would like to work more abstractly over time, distilling landscapes, people and architecture to their true essence.
